It is so frustrating but I can’t play anything on my Android TV client or even the web app anymore. Everything lags or stutters when I try it. I used to be able to watch anything on my devices and out of the blue it simply stopped working. If I hadn’t invested so much money on it I’d just leave it and go to Emby, but unfortunatley I did… this sucks.
Hi, first of all, thanks for replaying.
Nothing changed since it last worked, that’s the weird part. It suddenly didn’t work no more.
It mostly happens with larger files, like Bluray remuxes. But in the past, they all played smoothly.
I can watch movies just fine in two other devices (chromecast through Android phones) but it’s not working on mi Nvidia Shield nor my web app.
I read that many people had this problem with subtitled files and so I tried playing the files without them and it worked fine. With subtitles on, I can only play smaller files.
I also read that the PMS might have wrongfully thought that the Nvidia Shield was connecting remotely, so I deactivated remote access to the server but the problem persists.
My server is running on an i7 3770k processor, so it shouldn’t have problems playing these files, even with the subtitles on…
It’s not so much if your server can play the video, but if the client can.
What kind of subtitles are you using? Are they embedded in the video file or in a separate file – are they text based (e.g. srt) or image based (e.g. from a Blu-Ray or DVD rip)?
Please check the settings of the Plex Client on your Nvidia Shield – primarily those related to direct play / direct stream and subtitles. However if the Shield doesn’t support native playback of that particular subtitle format, the Plex Media Server will mix it into the video (burn-in) – from what I can see, your CPU does not support HW encoding of the video. Still it should be sufficiently powerful to handle the transcode of a 1080p video
PS: this has nothing to do with remote access.
Hi @tom80H thanks for your reply.
The subtitles are either PGS (from Blu-ray) or ASS and always contained in the MKV file with the video. I’ll take a look at the Shield settings as soon as I can.
Thank you.
