Carplay Plays Album Instead of Playlist

This happens very infrequently, but enough over the past few versions to warrant reporting. Sometimes when I play a song from a playlist, once it finishes it will play the next song in the album its from, rather than the next song on the playlist. This only happens when using Carplay, as when I load the songs on my iPhone manually, it plays correctly.

Post some Plexamp logs right after it happens.

I managed to load the log from the last occurrence since it was recent. Look for this line, which references the song I requested from the playlist:

Nov 05, 2022 13:55:16.618 [Javascript] INFO - Car: Play Item Kaikai Kitan (track)

I imagine what you are looking for is around there

OK, yeah, so it’s an issue playing playlists (as opposed to shuffling them). Will fix.

I was just going to post a similar thing for Android Auto. Downgraded to 4.5.1 and it plays fine, only affects 4.5.2. Selecting a song in the playlist will continue on as if it was selected from an album, versus continuing in the playlist.

Fixed in next release.

I hate to be that guy, but I’ve had this error happen again today despite it being fixed in a previous update. I’ve attached the logs.

Tried twice in CarPlay mode to play the song ā€œKaikai Kitanā€ from the playlist before I had to go on my phone to do it manually.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Just bumping this up

Hmm, is this happening just with smart playlists?

This playlist I’ve been playing from is one I created manually, so it shouldn’t be that.

I see this in your logs:

Dec 13, 2022 15:48:58.932 [Javascript] INFO - Car: Play Item As It Was (track) Parent: As It Was (album) Container: Cruisin’ Stuff (playlist)
Dec 13, 2022 15:48:58.932 [Javascript] INFO - Car: Play args: server://39502bb56bfe944ed4354a4582980d5edf638f14/com.plexapp.plugins.library/playlists/31093/items playlist: 31093 shuffle: 0

That looks exactly right for playing the playlist and not the album associated with the track; I see the exact same thing on a manual playlist I tried over here.

That could be when I got on my phone to play something. The issue occurred when I tried to play ā€˜Kaikai Kitan’ via CarPlay. After a few attempts at that I just pulled out my phone and played something manually.

Ah yep, I think it’s fixed now. Going from home screen right into a playlist wasn’t properly remembering where it came from, vs browsing into all playlists and then into one.

Thanks for the report.
