Thank you for a fantastic app in Plexamp. I was recently made aware of it by Lon Seidman at Lon.tv in one of his features, and I am impressed. This is a powerful application that innovates in the way it delivers a music experience. It really does breathe new life into my music collection, and I’ve been inspired to update my music encodes (e.g. Lossless Audio) to leverage of the power of Plex.
It’s super cool to cruise around town and use Plexamp as my music player in the car. There is, indeed, a modicum of CarPlay support (which may have been overlooked by some users). You can use the “Now Playing” app on the screen to see what Plexamp is playing (complete with artwork). There’s no controls beyond play/pause, forward, and back, but it works. I, generally, have a map on my screen for the most part anyway.
I would like to see a dedicated Plexamp app on the radio screen, though. Beyond the typical controls, it would be great to have the ability to begin a Radio mix with the now playing artist. That way, I could either select an artist to start the seed or just “random” my entire library until I find the mood I’m after. I find the song, I hit the Radio button, and I’m off.
To expand upon desired CarPlay app functionality: I know static playlists aren’t really “a thing” for Plexamp. I think the “seed” process is the way to go as a differentiator, and this sets Plexamp apart from other music players. From that perspective, maybe give us the ability to create a “station” (which I believe is akin to a dynamic playlist). That way, we can hit something we’ve created and saved to get the party started in the car. I can envision a pre-populated list of stations (just as we find in the app now) and a list of our custom stations.
… and then there’s Siri integration when I say, “Siri, play some Angry Music on Plexamp.” I love the many ways we can get at our music in Plexamp. Let Siri help me get there.
Not so long ago (about a year or so) Plex actually had a feature that basically did exactly what you have suggested. It was called Plex Mix. It played an auto-generated playlist based on the track you selected as the seed.
I was hoping a similar feature might make its way into the new PlexAmp. It was the first thing I looked for after installing the app, and I was disappointed it still wasn’t available.
I know Plex Mix has little to do with the topic “CarPlay,” I merely wanted to point out that the suggestion for seeding from a track used to exist.
Hi, I’m trying new Plexamp in my iPhone with Siri. I was using Apple Music App only for Siri support. now I can avoid Music app usage. But I can’t get it to work. I think we need to now how to instruct Siri. I f I say “Play some music with Plexamp”, Siri says “Plexamp can’t do that” (or something similar since I have in spanish). I check Siri is ok in iOS settings, so or this is not working or I don’t see how to do it
I feel like the Plex Mix feature is still part of Plex. Just the other day, I was playing tunes via my LG television (the built-in Plex app). I clicked the radio-looking icon on a track I was listening on the television app, and it started a playlist based upon that seed. That’s what got me looking for it in Plex Amp.
Great work! I was able to try it just few hours ago
One thing to completely take over Apple’s Music will be a way to access incoming list of songs.
(In Music that’s done from the current song that is playing). I think Plexamp has a great potential! Congrats!
PD: Also please, don’t forget about bette Siri support!
Gotta say that for my needs, Plex, in general, is knocking it out of the park right now. My server is stable, it works on all my devices, and now I have my #1 requested feature. Great work, Plex team!
Hello,
A big thank you for CarPlay support.
If next track and previous track, as well as pause are both available with steering wheel controls, however fast forward and rewind, not. The problem is that I have not a touch screen. Just manual control on steering wheel or little command between the two seats (Audi A3 Limousine)
Is it possible to take this feature in count ?
Thanks in advance
