Is it possible to cast to PlexConnect from another device such as an Android phone or the Web app in the same way that I can cast to my Roku?
Also, does the web app show live thumbnails of media being played via PlexConnect in the Now Playing status window?
You can cast to any AppleTV if the Plex client supports it. AppleTVs implement AirPlay and a lot of devices can use this to “cast” to the ATV. Plex for Android and Plex for iOS have this functionality. PlexWeb will probably rely on the operating system (Windows, iOS, OSX, etc) to be able to AirPlay to the ATV or not.
PlexConnect uses the ATV remote, which IMHO is far more “natural”, easy to use, wife and kids friendly than casting.
If PlexConnect is used as a player it will be visible in PlexWeb’s Now Playing tab.

Okay. I was assuming that AirPlay was proprietary for Apple devices casting to/from other Apple devices, as so often is the case with Apple.
This page: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/207197467-Can-I-use-AirPlay-with-Plex- seems to show an AirPlay device appearing in an Android Plex app, so there’s that. But I didn’t know PlexConnect registers with the Plex server as a cast-compatible player.
Or does it?
