Plex Web can find Chromecast, newly updated Plex app can't

Hello,

I have an issue since the last update of the Plex app on my Google Pixel 8 Pro. The update led to the app no longer finding Chromecast. I’ve factory reset Chromecast, reinstalled the app and tinkered with permissions. Nothing I’ve tried works.

Other people can connect with their phone+app to my Chromecast and Plex Web can also do it.

Any idea how to resolve this? I suspect I need to find to find a specific setting to make the app able to discover Chromecast.

I have the same issue with my Pixel 7 and the new Plex app. It can’t find any Chromecast or even my Google TV.

Same issue, Pixel 7. No Chromecast devices despite my phone being able to discover them from both the OS and other apps, including Plexamp.

Terrible rollout of a bad app that no one likes. What a ■■■■ show. Incomprehensibly incompetent.

How come nobody from the Plex team answers? Why am I getting referred to a forum and getting ignored when seeking help?

I used a different phone that also used android to connect to chromecast and when that stopped working yesterday, I started to look for more general solutions.

According to this post: Plex Android App don't find cast devices
Enabling config.claspws.tv in domain in Pihole solved that users issue. I tried it and it worked for me as well.

I want to emphasize that I am very disappointed with the rollout of this app and with Plex’s communication throughout the process.

Have you managed to get Chromecast to work with the Android app? Whitelisting *.claspws.tv only allows my apps to see potential Chromecast destinations, not actually cast to them.

To be short it is broken, acknowledged and not a priority; I made a thread and a petition about this => Petition for casting to be finally fixed - General Discussions - Plex Forum
