I discovered the same issue on a 3rd gen Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra 4k.
My TV does not support Dolby Vision HDR HEVC content, and this turned out to be the issue. Then Plex Server doesn’t have a license to decode Dolby Vision content, so it can’t transcode.
Each episode tries to play, silently fails (I don’t know how to get long messages from a Chromecast) and tries to play the next episode and fails sequentially until it reaches the end of the season).
So it’s usually some format incompatibility.
In this thread where it mentions the same issue. It seems that there are logs that you can get from the app in About.
I know this is old but it sounds similar to my issue that hasn’t been answered. Something changed with the big upgrade last year and the android client apps aren’t passing information correctly to the server & chromecast. I don’t know exactly how this works and I can’t get an answer despite having a lifetime subscription.

I basically just solved it by using an older version of the android app and havent had any issue since
So if you’re fine with using an older version and not updating it i’d recommend just doing that
That’s my problem in the post I linked. The old android app 10.26.0.2578 seems to hand-over more information to the server and/or chromecast than the newer versions do. I’m not familiar enough with how the chromecast and plex media server APIs work to diagnose exactly where the issue is but the old version of the app casting works and transcodes AAC5.1 audio to AC3 whereas the new versions do not (they just fail and try playing all episodes in a series).
Unfortunately Plex support have been less than helpful basically saying to change hardware or completely ignoring the problem.
Bumping this because I had the same issue, on both my phone and my rooommate’s phone with the latest app, and a Chromecast. It is not fixed in the latest versions of both.
