Casting to Sonos does not appear to work at all

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.20.1.3252 on Synology D216
Player Version#: iOS iPad 7.6

Hi

New user here. I purchased PlexPass solely for the purpose of casting to Sonos and that feature does not appear to work at all as far as I can tell. I have experienced most of the issues already mentioned in the community posts that I have searched through looking for an answer.

  • Songs stopping midway
  • Next and Previous Track transport controls do not work. The UI does not even acknowledge the finger press as far as I can see.
  • Play/Stop transport controls also behave unreliably
  • Songs playing through the incorrect Sonos device

This is a non-starter for me if there is no solution as my system is entirely Sonos. I am desperate to chose Plex over Roon, as the library management and browsing in Plex is exactly what I’m looking for, but if I can’t cast to Sonos I will need to consider Roon again.

To be clear, I want to cast from the Plex apps as the media browsing is so excellent. I do not wish to use the Sonos native app with the Plex service enabled.

Thank you for any information/assistance you can provide.

Nick

Ok, so this has something to do with the Firewall on the Synology. I had it configured to allow Remote Access (and give the green success icon in the web UI) but that does not seem to be enough to allow casting to work.

If I disable the Synology Firewall completely then magically all the Sonos cast features seem to work just fine. Obviously I don’t want to leave it in that state.

Please can anyone provide me with some direction on setting the appropriate rules in the Synology firewall for the casting to all work?

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks, I’ll take a look at those ports. I seem to have it working now, but it’ll be interesting to see if I’ve caught all of them.

Looks like I get to stay with Plex :grinning: sorry Roon…

Cheers,

Nick
