Sonos fails to stream from Plex on Synology NAS

Server Version#: 1.18.3.2156
Player Version#: 4.12.3
Synology NAS: DS918+, latest DSM version

I’m trying to get my Sonos Play:1 to stream some MP3s from my Synology NAS. Steps I’ve done already.

  • Properly set up the latest Plex Media Server on my NAS, see version above.
  • Remote access in settings is OK, all checkmarks are green
  • I can access the web player from inside my network, using URL: http://:32400/web
  • I can access the web player from external using URL: http://:32400/web
  • Both web players can stream music, all format MP3
  • I installed Plex service from Sonos Windows app and successfully authorized the access
  • I can browse my music list and choose some MP3 from the list
  • The Sonos app (Windows or Android) starts streaming but stops, throwing this error:

…connection with Plex not possible

I’m using a firewall (IPFire) and have set up a port forwarding (DNAT) from external to the IP of my nas, using port 32400. No matter if I disable the firewall completely or activate it, there is no difference.

So, why can I browse the music library from Sonos or external, but streaming fails?

I’ve read and checked various sources in internet that describe similar Sonos and Plex issue. Most of them do not show a solution or have a different set up.

Any hints to solve this issue?

Thanks,
Michael

It’s a known issue, you’ll want to follow this thread here:

I’m working with the devs on this issue and I’d like to close this thread as a duplicate if that’s okay with you?
