Oh I see. Out of interest, can I roll back to a version where it does work? Assuming I can, woudl I need to roll back the server and the player? If so what version or versions would that be?

The version is mentioned in the linked post. But the player is always updating itself. Plus, sooner or later you won’t be able to use the old player with a newer server. And bugs won’t get fixed of course.

There is no functioning HTPC solution for plex at this point, the desktop version isn’t controllable outside a desk scenario and the new application crashes dozens of times a day, on just about any setup. I’d suggest moving to the kodi plex plugin at least temporarily.
