CCwGTV will not display PGS subtitles when there are multiple versions of a file

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: 9.9.0

I have two versions of a movie, one is a Blu-Ray remux and one is a popular x265 rip.

PGS subtitles play fine when I have just the Blu-Ray, but when there are two versions the PGS subtitles are not displayed, even though Tautulli says they are.

I confirmed this was the problem by removing the x265 version and trying the Blu-Ray version again.

Each file has there own set of subtitles? Are you using the Chromecast part of that device or are you using the app?

Yes the Blu-Ray PGS subs are in the mkv container and the x265 SRT subs are external.
Using the Chromecast app.

So what device are you casting from?

to be clear the CCwGTV has two parts.

  1. The chromecast, which you cast to and control from an app on another device, like our mobile app on your phone
  2. The GTV which runs our Android TV app using the devices remote control

Sorry. Using the GTV app. Not casting.

unfortunately I cannot reproduce.

When you are playing the remux with PGS subtitles and look at playback setttings does it show the PGS selected?

That’s strange. Yes the PGS subs are shown as selected.
What other information can I provide?
I’ve confirmed that casting from a phone works as intended.

If there are multiple pgs subs in that file and you change them during playback does it work?

I forgot to ask if the video was transcoding or not

Direct playback. Only one set of subs.
Selecting ‘None’ and then going back to ‘English’ actually did work, but only for that session. When I go back to the guide I have to do it again.

I also use the CCwGTV and my wife has noted that it has not been playing subs a lot. The most recent is the copies of ST-TNG I have, they are MKV containers and the subs are SRT. According to plex it is direct playing everything but the subs do not appear. I did note that the client on the CCwGTV she is using is behind a version and it doesn’t seem to happen on the Unit on the living room that is on the latest version

I’m on the latest, 9.9.0.33519

Could you try switching the subtitle selection during playback as I did?

These files only has the one sub stream so it’s turn off then back on. That didn’t seem to make a difference. Stopping playback then restarting with subs enabled from the get go got them to show again. I’ve also seen it display subs oddly, like instead of the full text it’s just a “(” and maby a word on the next line.

It’s one thing that bugs me about subs in plex. It doesn’t remember that I want full subs from episode to episode and we always end up starting them mid playback. plex defaults to none, or forced if the file has a forced sub stream

closing because there is already another topic about this.
