Certain subtitle formats preventing playback (which never used to be an issue)

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621
NAS: Synology DS918+ (8GB RAM)

Plex has been very unreliable the past few months - .ASS and some .SRT files have been breaking playback on some devices for the past few months. The dashboard says they are transcoding but the player just freezes and never gets anywhere.

Previously my server had no problem playing any of these on any device.

Has there been some kind of change to how Plex handles subtitles?

There has been no change in either .ASS or .SRT subtitles.

The possible change is that the player settings are set to ‘Always Burn’ instead of “Automatic” or “Only Image Formats”

When in either of these two modes, PMS must burn the subtitles into the video which will cause the server to stumble badly on Synology CPUs (low compute power)

So is automatic the best setting to leave it at if I want to burn-in subtitles as little as possible? The wording a bit confusing.

Either way, my settings were set to Automatic earlier when it was working fine.

.ASS subtitles are working again after updating to 1.32.8.7639 today
