I have a music video file named “Pat Benatar - We Belong - Alternate Ending - 1984 - Dolby 2.0.mkv”, in a global music video folder. It shows up under the Music Library>Artist Name>Extras with just the video name “Ending”. The only way I can change this is by making sure the word “Ending” doesn’t exist in the file name. Why is this…?
Problem has been around for quite a while. The problem affects any file with the word “Opening” or “Ending” in it. It’s been suggested to use “anime notation” to name the files until it’s fixed. I have no idea what that is, and can’t find any info on it. I asked about this naming glitch in December of last year:
Thanks for the quick response @leelynds! Sounds like you’ve had much more grief with this issue than I. Would be nice if the support articles for Extras made mention of avoiding the use of the words “Opening” or “Ending” at least.
Interesting issue. On reading over your post @leelynds, I think that you can 100% blame anime for it. Since anime rips love to include the opening and ending credits/songs with files, I guess Plex took up support for those terms.
However, the result being that they disregard the ENTIRETY of the name and simply display “Opening” or “Ending” is simply stupid. Especially since the anime convention is to use “OP” and “ED” for the names, then looking for the full word INSTEAD seems like a bizarre choice.
ALSO also, to disregard the entire name and not include anything else is silly, since there will almost always be context around each opening, such as listing which episode the opening and endings change (as anime tends to change one or the other half-way through a season).
The workaround on the latest post on that topic, to use greek letters instead of english for O and E might work, but it’s one hell of a dirty hack.
