Change Admin Username

Hey guys,

Does anyone have an idea on how can I change my admin account username? I would like to change it to something different so I can reuse the name that it has as a managed user. My bet is, I have to do it on the database side. Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

your server and clients may need a restart afterwards to ‘get’ the new name.

I want to keep my plex user id and make it a managed user instead of an admin. I wanted to create a different admin account. Now that I am thinking about it, it may not even be possible since Plex pass is tied up to the admin user of the server and not the server itself. I could easily create a new account, sign out of my server and signing in with the new account but then my server would lose all its plexpass features.

Precisely. Which is why I proposed to rename your plex account instead.
If you tick the checkbox ‘require email address for logon’ (don’t know the exact wording in english)
then you will login with your email address instead of your user name.
(the email address still won’t be visible in the forums.)
This then frees up your Breezytm name for reuse as a managed user.

Keep in mind though, that the ‘watched’ history will not travel along. It stays with the admin account.

Taking all these obstacles into account, it is probably easier just to make up a new user name for your managed user.

You make great points. I thought about all that and I have trakt.tv to sync my watched and unwatched. Not really an issue. I was hoping I wouldn’t lose my account. I’ve been using this “breexytm” username on the forum for the longest. Everyone who knows me know me by that name. Why couldn’t plexpass be server licensed rather than user? And why can’t there be multiple admin accounts? UGH

Because then you’d have to deal with server licenses. Each time you set up a new server or re-install you’d have to relicense. Not to mention users with several servers…

And why can’t there be multiple admin accounts?

Can’t really tell you. It is like it is.

Server license wouldn’t be an issue has you can simply license all your servers with whatever key Plex provided you. All the servers are your property. You wouldn’t be violating any rules. But like you said things are just they way they are.

Thanks for the help buddy.
