I cannot figure this out, hope someone can help. All my downloaded TV Shows are stored on an external drive and thats the only place the TV Shows library is set up to look for media at. I have installed my HD HomeRunPrime DVR and every time I set up a show recording I choose to save it to the TV Shows library, but Plex is saving every shows it downloads using the DVR right on my main hard drive in my laptop. I tried clearing all the scheduled recordings out and setting up the schedules again, still saves them to my hard drive in my laptop, Macintosh HD. Ugh, How do I change the location the DVR recordings are saved to?
Please advise.
All you have to do is create a new catagory with “TV Shows” as the media type. Example is I’m using an old 3TB drive just for the Plex DVR. I created a folder on the drive called “Recorded TV” and then created the same catagory in PMS.
Once you do that, your new category will show up in the drop down as an available location to store your DVR recordings.
But when im scheduling the recording im selecting TV Shows library, which is only associated with the external drive.
So why is Plex storing the DVR content on my local drive? Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Anybody know how to change the storage location for DVR content?
Any response? I’d really like to hear the answer to this.

First what does your TV Shows library settings look like? Specifically, the Add Folders section.
With multiple locations set you will get a dropbox to select where to record files to when you schedule a recording.
Plex has also started using the path for local application data for storing the transcode of recordings as they are being created. Basically to support Live TV Plex had to start storing small approximately 1 second segments as the show was being recorded or viewed. When a recording is complete Plex needs to create a single file for the recording. These individual files default to a folder location where your local application data is stored. This location can be changed by going to Settings/Server and changing the location.
A new setting for the transcode directory was also added from what I can tell. I have not changed this setting but you can get to it by going to Settings/Server/Transcoder.
Thanks very much johnm, Excellent response.
