Change gmail associated account(plex pass) to another e-mail address

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156

Hi all, I was trying to find this topic in other threads, but was unsuccessful.

I have linked the Lifetime pass subscription to my gmail account and also use google to login into my server.

I want to change this and move to another e-mail service provider.

  1. Is it possible to move my subscription to another account
  2. Can I reclaim my server with the new e-mail, without losing all libraries, etc?

I am running plex in a docker container

Thank you all!

  1. Yes
  2. You don’t reclaim your server only change the email address.

At the bottom of this page under support is billing questions, I mention this because if you somehow mess this up you will open a ticket there. Before you do this, the email should be able to receive emails from Plex which is tough to verify. I know that Mailfence accounts don’t work, probably Microsoft and others that aggressively block spam won’t either.

  1. The email must be new and not previously associated with a Plex account.
  2. Server is claimed and you are logged in.
  3. https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account and edit your email to new email.
  4. Do all the verifications.

Thank you for your swift response.

I feel quite stupid but I can’t get my head around to change the email.

as I am using the google login, my google pass is not taking any effect of course, but changing to a new e-mail also does not work.

May I request your assistance again on that matter? May it be the Single Sign on with google?

Yes single sign in is the issue.

Add a Plex password to a Google- or Apple-linked account

If you first started using Plex with your Google or Apple account, you don’t have a separate Plex password. You can add a regular password to your account at any time. This allows signing in to the Plex account without the separate authentication service, by instead using the account email address and password.

  1. Sign in to the Plex web app.
  2. Visit your Plex account page.
  3. Open the Password section.
  4. Enter your new account password (be sure to choose a strong, unique one!) and then confirm it.
  5. Click the Save Changes button.

You can now sign in to your account using a password by choosing Continue with Email on any Plex login page.

You have a normal plex password already on your account, when changing your email you need to use that password, not your Google one.

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately, i need a “current password”, which i definitely do not have do to single sign in.
Save changes remains grayed out.

Hey, thanks!

I am 99.9% certain that I did not set a password (but it has been years).
Anything else I could try?

You 100% have a password. If you didn’t, it would not require you to enter a “current” one.

You can use the “Forgot” link on the sign in page (after clicking “continue with email”) to have a password reset link sent to you to change to a new value

I did this, and I am able to login with google single sign in and with the new password and my gmail address.
Unfortunately, I do not see my server anymore, not through the plex web UI, any app or with my local IP.

Re-Claiming the server was also unsuccessful (using docker with claim token).
Should this even happen when changing a password?

ok, I managed somehow to re-claim my server, don’t now why exactly but i assume some leftovers removed from the Preferences.xml did the trick.

So, as i do have a password now for my gmail account as well (which I do not want to utilize for plex any longer), I can just change the E-mail with a new and unused account as stated above?

Thanks again, but this took quite some effort now and I don’t want to run into troubles again.

if you mean can you change to a different email, yes. If you want to remove the Google auth then that is a separate step by removing it in the Linked Accounts section of account settings.
