Change Password, PMS now throws SSL error, “no soup for you”

I was seeing massive remote usage and since I can’t tell who’s downloading what on the dashboard, I changed my Plex password out of caution and now my server is totally jacked up and I cannot access it for beans. SSL errors at start, “no soup for you” over http, and all of the usual nonsense. Here is the PMS log:

I have looked in the Preferences.xml for that token that I guess has to be removed but I don’t see it. Maybe it’s been relocated since this last happened to me when I was locked out of my my server.

Little help?

I should mention that I followed the basic troubleshooting steps of removing PlexHome, PlexName, etc… but again, the token field was empty. Since I could access my server over http but was unable to see any of my content, I finally ended up deleting the PMS browser instance on the set of authorized clients. That was enough to allow me to browse my content again, but now none of the titles are available with the red UNAVAILABLE stamp on everything as if the media was moved away. Also, it seems like all of the play counts appear to be reset as everything shows that it’s never been watched.

Again, after a restart, the logs show the same SSL error but now maybe it’s refreshing the play count? Anyway, why it’s trying to connect to the external IP versus my internal when starting the server locally seems odd. (I XXX’d out the last octet.)

It’s almost like when it works properly for too long and over too many version updates the harder it is to fix when it breaks. :pensive:

I was able to fix the UNAVAILABLE - unrelated mounting issue - but is there some guide on how to recover from the SSL error? I now can see it with my iPad Plex app locally (With all of the play counts reset so everything is shown as watched, which is a bummer) but the dashboard on the Plex server itself won’t work in https nor does the https version allow me to set settings on the local server. I allowed non-secured connections just to get it working locally but other than that it’s offline and unmanageable. It’s very strange. All remote connections say “no soup for you” because of the SSL problem.
This all started when I changed my password after seeing massive upload usage with no attribution as to who was pulling the data. Since it was no one that I had allowed I had to assume I had been compromised. I couldn’t tell much about what account was being used for access- I just had the two IP addresses of the connections which I got from netstat which wasn’t much help aside from tracing where the IPs were from- one probably over VPN.

Anyway, I changed my password to be on the safe side and then I had to reenter the “link” code as reported on my AppleTV into Plex.tv/link and that is when everything flew apart. No access to the PMS server.

Clearly deleting the PMS web UI from my authorized hosts has made things worse. I wasn’t getting anywhere with the SSL problem. Since the Plex token field in Preferences.xml was blank I wasn’t sure how to refresh any trusted devices which might have no longer been trusted. The fact that I cannot get the https version of the local dashboard to work at all is obviously the main problem. It, still can’t access the local interface to manage anything.

Also, any ideas why the media play count was wiped? Was it because I had to remove my authentication credentials from Preferences.xml so PMS sees me as a new user or something? I suppose I could wipe the slate clean and start over but REALLY don’t want to lose my metadata again. I would really like to fix this surgically rather than with explosives.

Is there some guide on how to manage PMS as in the troubleshooting guide but on the CL when you simply cannot reach the admin console UI?
