Changed computers, botched Plex install, now have two servers

Trying to set up Plex in a new Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC

So I have a new PC and I wasnt sure how best to move to a new PC so I fired up the internet and downloaded the Plex app for Windows and installed it on my machine. Long story short I end up with a completely new account and I had scanned all my media and Plex had scrapped it all and I was very happy. But then I discovered that it didnt recognize my lifetime Plex pass so I couldnt set up shares.

I could never get to my original server. Plex offered me the opportunity in the form of a pop-up to “claim this server”… the new server, the server I just created, the server my friends were now connected to, and so I claimed it.

Everything seemed to go swimmingly I even had my friends connect to my new server. So I shut the PC down and the next time I use it I double click on the Plex server app icon on the task bar of my Windows 10 PC and Plex is launched…yay! but it defaults the account to the original and it cant connect to the original.

So heres where I am. With the Plex server app running (as evidenced by the icon in the task bar) if I double click on the icon in the task bar then Plex opens on the old account. If I open a browser and log in through the browser then my new account, that shows my credentials correctly is what is launched.

So I guess there are entries in the registry that need erasing/tweaking to get this working consistently?

Also, how do I start a help ticket with Plex?

I just logged in through a browser and the little wheel on the left upper part of Plex was spinning and spinning trying to find a server (the Plex app was running when I opened the browser) so finally I clicked on the area and a drop down list showed my recent build and I clicked on it and landed at “The server does not allow secure connections…you can also allow insecure connections now, which will reload the app insecurely.” and 2 choices are given 1.Allow Once 2.Allow Always

Either one I pick lands me where I need to be with my new server running and everything as it should be. But obviously something is jacked because I have to do this every time I want to access Plex.

Go to plex.tv with your new account. Click Launch. After you login to the new server log out. Go to the server with your local IP. When it asks to login use your old account and claim it. That’s it.

Look if there are several servers shown here
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms

delete the older one.

Also, check if you have disabled ‘Secure Connections’ under
Settings - Server - Network
set it back to ‘preferred’

And don’t try to use Microsoft Edge as your web browser.

I lost this thread and just now found it. I hope Im not having a stroke, I seem confused.

So I followed the link you so kindly provided and followed your instructions. I deleted an older account. There is now only my new account now, the account I would like to keep.

I navigated to ‘Secure Connections’ and it was already set to ‘preferred’.

So the link I followed that you provided is the Plex web app that reflects what Plex has as my base account?

Please follow the instructions in your other thread first:
After that we can deal with the remaining issues.
