I just reset my password on plex.tv now I can’t access my server remotely or from home. I’m on the same network now, trying to access via it’s local address. In settings I don’t have a server icon. In the main page it’s just a spinning wheel “Looking for servers”.
I have tried, restarting the plex jail (this was installed from a jail a long time ago), signing out of the web app, and updating plex manually.
I’m not familiar with where plugin files are kept in Freenas so I do have that challenge as well. Thanks for any advice.
I have the exact same issue, using Freenas 11.2. I reset my password for my plex account on plex.tv, and then got the message that no servers could be found when tried to access my PMS on my local network. I have even installed another PMS instance on a second Freenas server, but no luck.
I find it odd that when I try to access plex at the local IP address, the web server is there and forwards me to the plex login screen, but then does not find any plex media server.
This doesn’t look like a server version (PMS) but os version, btw if it is, you should update to 11.2, as recent versions won’t work on older than that.
No luck. I have removed all devices. When i go to the server address, it tells my my credentials have expired and asks me to login again. When i do, i get to the plex screen that says it is “looking for servers” but never finds one.
Again, I have tried to create a new server as well and get the same behavior.
Yes, the jail is configured with vnet… both the one that stopped working as well as the new instance. I can see the jail from the network just fine, just can’t get the plex account to see it.
I have now tried to setup new server on the same freenas machine as well as a totally different freenas machine. Neither are able to be detected. To clarify, in both cases, I do get the plex web page when I go to the server locally, and it redirects me to the plex.tv site to login. At that point, I get redirected back to the client page on the local server, but it claims it cannot find any server.
in all cases, I configured the instances to use vnet, just like the server i have had running for over a year until the password change.
We’re having different issues; I have set up the server on a Windows machine temporarily and it works, but I don’t want to use that computer permanently. I’m hoping there’s some solution for this.
Just to rule that out this is being done on the LAN network not over VPN right?
I just tried this myself on both a FreeNAS and FreeBSD and it works, one thing you guys can try is removing any auth info from the Prefrences.xml file like:
actually remove those entries (be sure to back up the file first)
Then re-start PMS (but this shouldn’t be an issue at all in a new install with VNET)
The issue without vnet is that the jail will not have a full network stack and this causes issues not only with discovery but system bundles (like downloading metadata etc)
I can try editing that. Should I remove the entire reference, so delete the variable (Plex…, all deleted) and equal sign as well? Or should it look like one of the following:
Ok so i was able to regain access to the server. Apparently Plex in a freenas jail is a bit tempermental…
Fist, I made sure all devices were removed from my plex account.
Then, I made sure my browser cache was cleared.
Then, I accessed the plex server using the specific local network IP address… NOT my internal host name that resolves with my internal dns. Apparently this was causing an issue.
Once I was able to get to the server using the IP address, I was able to setup the system and claim the server in the settings menu. At that point, I was able to again access the server using the host name rather than an IP address.
Hopefully you will find this works for you as well.
That’s why I suggested removing the server from plex account manually.

This is interesting though, cause the web app (app.plex.tv) should look for server in the network (assuming gdm is enabled in the server) and find it.
Glad you we’re able to get back to it though.
@ross0201 can you DM the Preferences.xml ? Also please in the same DM please post the output of sockstat -l46 and ifconfig in the jail.
