Plex. Do you have ANYONE there that thinks about the negative impact of a massive UI change? Do you have ANYONE there that considers the impact on the daily life of a segment of the Plex user community? I’m talking about senior citizens. Like my 86-year old father. He doesn’t adapt well to tech. He doesn’t adapt well to CHANGE. The Plex server I maintain is a significant part of his daily living. And now you change the bloody interface. And now he doesn’t know where to go to see the movies and TV shows on my Plex server. Yes, the navigation is in the same “place” that it was. And yes, one still clicks left to get to that navigation. However, people like my father depend upon the visual element. And it’s been replaced with different elements. Please tell me that someone there had to foresight to recognize how devastating a drastic UI change can be and that there’s a toggle buried SOMEWHERE in the UI to revert it to the WAY THAT IT’S BEEN FOR YEARS THAT PEOPLE LIKE MY FATHER DEPEND UPON BECAUSE THEY DON’T ADAPT WELL TO CHANGE.
While I previously would have crowed the use of Plex to anyone within earshot, the latest changes had added so much fluff and so many odd design choices that I no longer consider this. I have an elderly neighbor that I almost considered setting up with a small version of this for OTA channels to save her the $100+ a month cable bill just to watch locals, but not any more. I can tolerate change, but not a lot of people can.
For those that are wondering what I’m talking about, I’m referring to the change to the AppleTV interface.
If only it was just Plex that made these kinds of decisions. We all depend on software for everything and all too often, it feels like a hostage situation.
Because so many Plex users have kids or seniors around, a simple and stable GUI option would be much appreciated.
Probably most of my friends, half of whom are nerds, would choose it too…
