Changing email address

I would like to update my password. Is email verification required?
I do not have access to my old email address.
I do know my account password.

Then change the email address first to a valid one.

But will plex ask me to verify anything through my old email address that I no longer have access to? I failed to do this with dropbox and I had to open another account, transfer all file permissions across and close the old account. It was VERY tedious.

No, it will just send an email to the old address, with a link in it which would allow the change to be reverted (at least for a while).

I am at present once again setting up the plex on another PC. When it is set up, I will change the password. Thank you very much.

There is no need to do that. You can manage your account all on https://app.plex.tv
