Changing music folder structure without affecting "Recently Added"

I’m having a re-org in my music library to make things a bit more manageable.

I’m changing from :-

\Artist - Year - Album\ to \Artist\Year - Album\

I would normally expect to move all the albums by an artist out of the library, scan files and then move the new structure back in, scanning again.

However I don’t want everything I change this way to appear under “Recently Added”.

How can I prevent this from happening ?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you can’t.

Oh dear.

I seem to remember something from my first days with Plex and when first creating a library, Plex will use the dates from the files/folders on the first scan. Am I remembering this correctly ?

If this is the case and I do decide to create a new library, with my new structure will Plex use the modified date from the top level “Artist”, from each of the separate “Album” folders or the file dates themselves of the actual flac files ?

Correct.

I’m not sure. I recommend testing this with a temporary library, pointed to a folder with just a few artist/albums.

Excellent plan. Easy to test to make sure I get the desired results. Thanks for the help.

If you untick “Empty trash automatically after every scan” and Plex recognises that it already knows the track, it shouldn’t appear in Recently Added. This way you also can just move files from A to B, not having to take them out, scan, and put back.

This is how I rename my TV episodes, and move the folder structure around.

That’s how it usually works with tv shows and movies. But music is a different beast.

Ah, sorry!

Thanks anyway :+1:t2:
