Changing Plex Accounts

I wanted to change the Plex account used on a server (bad idea, but I tried anyway). After countless remove/installs and reboots I finally figured it out.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Remove Plex Media Server
  3. Delete everything in %localappdata%\Plex Media Server
  4. *** Use Regedit to delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc. ***
  5. Download and install Plex
  6. Follow standard configuration.

Step 4 (***) is the one it took me a while to figure out

Step 3 is unnecessary. You can perfectly fine keep all the Plex data and libraries you’ve created before. The crucial bit is to clear out the registry.
