I notice that when I modify tag information my PLEX players (TVs and iPad) usually do not seem to pick up the changes. For some reason PLEX seems to hold on to the old tag data. Yes, I can delete the library in question, then re-install it, which will “refresh” the tag data . . . but then I lose my “sort” settings. It is quite a lot of work to reset the “sort titles.”
Is there a way to refresh the library to reliably pull in the new tag information?
That sounds like the general symptoms that lead to the rise of the “Plex Dance.” This is a workaround for a long-time problem with Plex’s metadata agents, where they wouldn’t pick up changes in metadata. The music scanning agent recently underwent a major upgrade which pretty much eliminated the need for the “Plex Dance” in Music libraries. The agents for other Library types will hopefully soon receive the same improvements, but there’s no indication of when that will happen.
Thank you beckfield for this information. If I go through this process will PLEX retain the “sort title” settings?
PLEX music seems to give first “sort” priority to the “album artist” field. It even overrides the “sort title” setting. Is it possible to overcome this?
What if I just delete all “album artist” tag data?
Maybe explain a bit more what you are changing and where.
Which media type?
Do the changes show in the Plex web app and are only not updated in the other players?
