So I have a problem, I have charmed all seasons already on my plex server under folder “Charmed” however the new charmed which I named the folder “Charmed (2018)” will not even register in my server even to fix match. Any Ideas on what i could Rename the folder to make it appear thanking you in advance.

It may have merged the two shows together. You will need to “split” the show before you can fix match. Check to see if the old Charmed has multiple copies…Particularly season 1, eps 1&2

I am having same issue but I do not have the split option on the show. i clearly see 2 versions on the original show and one shows the different location in the Charmed(2018) folder. But I can not split them and no matter what I do it wont give me option under the folder view to correct match. That needs to be a feature. You can see the folders are different in the folder view but if I click on the folder I get no menu options to tag with metadata. And if I follow the path to the episode and click on it … It still takes me back to the incorrect location of the season 1 files for 1998 version.
I had to change the folder name to Charmed2018 no spaces no parenthesis and it put a blank marker in plex finally for it as charmed2018 and then I was able to do fix match. but i have to name each episode as such now for it to see the new episodes which is quite ridiculous.
You shouldn’t have to do that at all. The Fix Match option should only be done in extreme circumstances. But… It’s there for people to use anytime I guess…
Just a little FYI, you must do the PlexDance anytime you make changes to a television series that will change what series it is. Plex is super dumb about that. If Plex didn’t get the series correct then YOU must remove it from Plex, WAIT for plex to see it gone(or scan the library), empty trash, clean bundles, make the necessary changes to the show, then add back. Pain-in-the-ass I know. but that’s Plex for you.
Words of wisdom, if Plex did NOT automatically match the show correctly the first time, it’s not going the 2nd, 3rd, etc until YOU correct the naming (either by using the right naming scheme or by “tricking” plex with a name plex thinks is correct), and PlexDance.
I have the same problem still no “split” Option and also when I rename it like calisto suggests it give the new name which gives the blank marker for about 2 secs then merges them all back together so will have to what happened and plug on if anymore ideas it would be great p.s thank to both of you I have also done the Plex dance as suggested as well.
EDIT and Update justed sussed it plex found and added all details covers and meta data rename the folder to “(2018) Charmed” and it finds it
On my system the DVR side does not see the difference between the old and new Charmed.
The networks here in Australia are showing both and I am missing a couple of episodes from the old Charmed so I an trying catch them as well as the new series.
What is happening is the system will not record a new series Charmed episode if am old series episode exists with the same season and episode number.
I have created Charmed, Charmed (1998) and Charmed (2018) folder structures; but everything Charmed both old and new ends up getting recorded under Charmed (1998). ( the Charmed structure with out a year is completely ignored)
. As a temporary work around I copied everything out of Charmed (1998)/Season 01 directory to a directory not seem by Plex. The New series episodes end up being placed in Charmed (1998)/Season 01 by the DVR. I then move them to the Charmed (2018) structure where the database picks them up correctly.
I suspect the problem in the DVR side is something to do with the EPG data I use ICETV becuase the default Plex catch has problems with aussie vs yank content and I know the tv stations EPGs only provide data they are legally obliged to provide. which does not include series/season/episode data.
Its a bit of swings and roundabouts with Plex I recorded an Australian kids series call Eve correctly Identified in the guide and incorrectly identified by the database. I correct the mistake but the database just changes it back next scan.
Such is life.
This is a strange and annoying issue! You can search for Charmed and find both the original and 2018 version; however, the 2018 version shows as watched without having being watched while every new episode of 2018 downloaded results in the same 1998 episode showing as unwatched (even though they were all previously marked as watched).
Basically, you have to search for the show any time a new episode comes out.
Have you read my post? if you change the folder for the charmed reboot to “(2018) Charmed” plex works as normal for me
That helps with playback but recording of the new charmed ends up in the old charmed structure as stated in my last post.
