So I have the Extended Collector’s Edition of Avatar (2009), but Plex doesn’t recognize the difference between that and the normal edition, so when it pulls subtitles from OpenSubtitles, they are for the normal edition, and therefore, incorrect.
To fix this, I found a file online that has the correct subtitles for the Extended edition, and put them in my local folder. But now, when I click on subtitles, these are the choices:
None
English (SRT External)
English (SRT External)
It’s basically trial and error as to which one is the correct one. I could resolve this by disabling OpenSubtitles, so that it only pulls the local file, but I would like to use OpenSubtitles for the other movies in my collection.
Long story short, is there a way for Plex to choose between either Local srt files OR OpenSubtitles, if the language is the same? I don’t want to have to choose between two identically named Subtitle choices
You could delete the subtitle from OS with WebTools
Or you take your correct SRT file and mux it into the video file, so it becomes an internal subtitle. Which will protect it also from getting accidentally deleted. MKVtoolnixGUI
From my understanding, making it an internal subtitle would force the subtitle to be on all the time, yeah?

No. That would be the case if you’d “burn-in” the subtitle into the video picture. Which will take much longer and which will also make the video quality (slightly) worse.
“Muxing-in” means taking the original video file,
extracting the video and the adio stream from it
then adding the subtitle stream on top
and merge all three together into a single file.
With the resulting file, the player (i.e. Plex) will still be able to enable or disable the subtitle at will.
Alright, I’ll probably go that route, then, thanks. Still think it’d be nice if there were some feature to limit Plex to one subtitle file per language, but good to know i can differentiate them, at least.
