Choosing my own image for a movie icon

I have all my movies as individual files in my Movie folder. They are not in separate folders. Several of the movies have the wrong or distorted images for their icons. I would like to know how Plex chooses icons for movies, how I can see the database used for icons and if there is anyway to pick my own icon (perhaps a locally stored jpeg file).

IIRC Plex isn’t primarily using any crowd-sourced repository due to copyright/licensing.
You can store local posters alongside your files. If you keep all your movies in a flat structure, name the poster like the movie file. You’ll need to configure the library to prefer local assets/artwork and you might need to refresh the movie/library metadata, for Plex to pick the new poster files up.

Thanks Tom. If I do as you suggest, will the library use only local assets/artwork for all the movie files, or will it only use the local assets for the movies I add a local poster?

Only for items where local assets are found.

As a side note:
I recommend you start giving each movie its own folder.
(a) that’ll make it much easier to keep track of local assets or extras as you add them
(b) as your library grows, this will be noticeable faster when scanning your library.
