Recordings have become choppy. In past it has worked fine. It is not a signal issue. I record programs on 3 OTA tuners. TiVo, Dish OTA module and HD Homerun via Plex. Dish OTA is the weakest tuner. In particular I record an early morning news broadcast the I watch with commercials skipped while I stretch getting ready for the morning exercize routine. I like the skip feature because . . . well I’m stretching so it’s nice not to have to fast forward past commercials. Has worked perfectly until recently. Now the recording is very choppy, not signal breakup, just a stuttering effect. Plays for awhile then stutters. I go to the backup recording on the Dish OTA module (which is the weakest of the 3 OTA tuners) and it plays perfectly but lazy me has to skip past the commercials I don’t know if it corresponds to a software update or what. It’s done it all this week. I’ve rebooted the computer and the HD Homerun tuners. Any suggestions?
Have you tried these recordings in a different player? Like VLC just to test the integrity of the file?
That’s the web client version; the server version is located in Settings then scroll down on the left under your SERVER and then click on General. The version number is on the right.
OK, server is 1.18.7.2457 which is the latest, I try to keep it up to date. No I hadn’t tried the file with VLC which is dumb on my part. Just did, plays like it did via the Dish DLNA player, choppy so it is in the recording. While PLEX may not support the player it has none the less worked just fine for years. I once again did a complete reboot of everything, Dish Hopper, HD Homerun, Mini Mac and was hoping to see results this morning. For some reason the program didn’t record this morning. Recorded fine on the TiVo & Hopper. It did record programs from last night so I’m not sure why the morning show didn’t record, it’s next scheduled for Monday. A quick view of stuff recorded last night looks ok but it’s only a quick scan. TiVo does such a fantastic job of skipping the only PLEX recording I watch are the early morning news show and late night old Johnny Carson shows on ME TV that are outside the window of the TiVo skip recording. I’ll have a definitive answer Monday morning if it successfully records.
Another day, another result. First 10 minute ok then goes to unwatchable choppiness. Backup recordings just fine, watched the rest on the weakest of the 3 tuners. Checked the recording on VLC, it was choppy so it’s in the recording, has nothing to do with the player. Even checked it with a different DLNA player (before the VLC check) which of course played the same because the problem is in the recording not the player.
I would love to know a solution! Did you ever solve your problem? Im having the same problem. Used to work fine until the past 2-3 months. Now all recordings are choppy and barely watchable at best. Subtitles never work properly either.
Next server update (1.18.8.2527) fixed the problem. It was kind of strange, I couldn’t find a “What’s New” explanation to the update. Once I applied that server update it went back to recording normally. I’ve now taken an if it ain’t broke don’t fix it attitude, I know I’m at least 1 update behind could be more. As long as it is recording properly I won’t do any server updates. The version # above is the version I’m running now and for the foreseeable future.
I’ve updated to the newest server update. I couldn’t do the one you did. Still just as choppy as ever. Really pissing me off. This was one of the main reasons I got Plex and I can get no help. How to you get help from plex to solve issues?!
Good to know that current server version doesn’t fix the problem. I will stay with my version until hell freezes over. There must be something unique in yours and my setup otherwise this site would be flooded with complaints because it makes the DVR worthless. The DVR is the only reason why I have a PLEXpass.
Here’s something interesting. Any tv show I record is choppier than hell. However the movies I’ve been recording seem to be perfectly fine. Figure that one out.
Are the movies recorded via your OTA tuner? I’m wondering if the choppy is coming from the commercial skip algorithms going crazy. It certianly isn’t signal strength in my situation. As I said all recording that were choppy recorded fine on my backup devices. You might try turning off the commercial skip feature and see what that does. Then again commercial skip is my main reason for going with the Plex DVR. My current server version is still working good on my system.
Definitely not signal strength problem. I’ve got great signal. Yes the movies are over my ota just like the tv shows. I’ve turned off all commercial cut outs, reduced quality, removed subtitles burn, rebooted everything multiple times. Tried everything I can think of.
