Chrome/Brave browser hvec/h265 black video with direct stream

Server hardware: QNAP TS-451+ running QTS 5.1.0.2466

When I have direct play enabled, all of my HVEC content plays a black screen (with subtitles if I have them on) with audio on brave or chrome browsers. If I select any of the transcode options, the video will play fine.

On my Android TV Plex app - or Plex app on my Android phone - it will play the same video with direct play enabled with no issues.

Other than reencoding my entire library away from the HVEC format, is there a fix for the Plex Web player on these two browsers?

Try the Plex app instead of the browser. Plex for Windows or Mac

The app supports a lot more codec/format types and you get files to direct play much easier

I appreciate that the app works better. I was really hoping there was a workaround to make the browser work with these files (other than transcoding).
