Anyone on a computer or phone with a Chrome browser can click on the small icon at the top right (three lines with a musical note) “Control you music, videos, and more” and see the title of what you are watching and pause/play etc. I would like to make my Plex players on my Nvidia Shields or web browsers, etc. not share this information with everyone on my network. How do I turn this feature off from the Plex side? Or can I control which devices have access to this information and remote control ability? I have found how to disable " Global Media Playback Control" from the Chrome side but that doesn’t really help because I don’t control every device connected to my network (house mates, guest, etc.). This seems like an obvious privacy hole.
Thanks for any help in disabling or limiting this feature.
It seems that this is actually related to Chromecast, which means that Plex and Chrome are working together to allow this behavior. For example YouTube videos are also poping up in this media control interface. But Netflix is not showing up because they are not supporting Chromecast. In other words, it takes two to Tango. What I am looking for, is a way to disable this in Plex so others can’t see what media I am watching or pause/play/skip my media.
Is there a way to turn off Chromecast in Plex?
It seems that this control may be an experimental feature of Chrome; I am running Chrome Version 92.0.4515.159 (Official Build) (64-bit).
So, is this how this forum works. I submit a legitimate questions pointing a serious security/privacy flaw then a seemingly experienced person blames something else not Plex. I clarify my question and make it more pointed, like “how do I disable Chromecast in Plex”. Everyone ignores it for the remainder of the three months so the thread will auto-close. Problem solved!
Since it seems that there is no way to make Plex stop working with Chromecast to violate my privacy and show everyone the media titles that I am playing from any Chrome browser. I have switch to Jellyfin; free at https://jellyfin.org
The other advantage is that I can still access my local media even when the internet goes down.
