I’m also having issues with direct play but mine shows as very choppy playback. It plays for one second, freezes for one second and then it skips ahead and the cycle repeates. The audio plays fine and some videos don’t show this issue. Disabling refresh rate switching doesn’t help.
I found that I have a similar issue. I noted it occurs with my h264 level 4.1 mkv files only. you can see my full account in the thread below.
I downloaded the newest beta, the 9.11.0.36101 , yesterday, and now it wokrks again with framerate and resolution switching options on. No more problems with loading screen.
I have DV mode in chromecast settings set to low latency ( if not some streaming apps dont show dv after A12 update)
Tested videos with different resolutions, and with DV and HDR. All of them works now
The latest beta (9.11.0.36101) resolved the issues with auto refresh and auto resolution switching as well.
The only thing that seems off is the new “Seamless” frame match option for Android 12 does not seem seemless at all as there is a black flash before each video. That said, whether I select “Seemless” , “non-seemess”, or “never” the same black flash happens with the auto switching options enabled.
From First look: Chromecast and Android 12's frame rate matching is a work in progress - FlatpanelsHD
Chromecast does not support HDMI 2.1 QMS so it is a little surprising to see the option listed here but it is probably a generic thing. At this time, there are no TVs with QMS support either.
Weird to ship with a default setting that has 0 chance of working. Maybe it’s for (future) TVs that run native Android/Google TV.
We need to set it to Non-seamless on Chromecast.
Is the suggestion to keep the two auto switch options turned on for Plex, and “Non-Seemless” for CCWGTV option enabled?
I believe that was also creating the black flash as well, but can check again.
Yes, both options on for Plex and non-seamless for Chromecast. If seamless works too then that’s probably fine also, but verify on your TV what signal it gets whether it matches the media resolution and frame rate.
You will get the flash and a bit of a delay while it’s switching the resolution and frame rate, no way around it.
This beta will not install on my Chromecast with Google TV running A12. Not compatible.
Where did you get the beta from?
It is on APK mirror.
Download and sideload or join the beta program.
One issue I noted since being in Android 12 is that Plex can play almost every DV titles from begining, but it loses DV processing when jumping forward and backward or changing chapters.
It also refuses to play at least one 1080p AVC SDR title that played before with no issues and now it stutters from begining to end.
I have just joined the beta program, I’ll install the beta app and test it, hoping it will solve most of the issues we’re suffering now.
For me the beta fixed the Framerate Match and Scrren resolution change, but it has introduced A/V sync issues.
It might have to do with audio pass-through. If you are using pass-through could you please try without it? I realize you won’t get DD5.1 etc but just for a test.
Same experience with me, except if it’s a DV rip it just stays loading forever when I seek. I wish I never updated to Android 12 if I knew I would get so many issues
+1 The Chromecast is disappointing, Google is losing it and doesn’t care. My Fire TV 4K Max works so much better for both Plex and Kodi. On the Chromecast I can’t play HDR10 content at all.
Just to make things more puzzling, the Plex beta sideloads successfully on one of my Chromecast with Google TVs BUT fails on the other Chromecast with Google TV. In fact while the device that is able to install the beta also appears on the list of linked android devices in the Play Store, the problematic device does not appear in the Play Store on a phone or pc; for that device the Play Store only appears on the device itself. I realize that this is a Google problem, not a Plex problem, but it’s weird. I suppose that eventually the beta will become official and Plex can upgrade within the device.
Could you replicate the issue and then grab the logs from Plex?
Do you have framerate matching enabled in the Android OS settings as well? This might conflict with the matching inside of Plex.
Framerate matching must be enabled in the Chromecast also, otherwise how can it work if the Plex app requests it but the Chromecast doesn’t honor it?

I find that this mainly happens with rips. Lower bitrate encodes, even in dv, play fine with no stuttering or buffering when seeking. Also a lot of my h264 rips have the stuttering issue but h265 rips have the buffering issue.
