Chromecast Google TV playback stopping

Hello,

When watching media on my Chromecast with Google TV the playback will stop and the circle will start spinning together with the message my network connection is not fast enough. Sometimes after 10min, sometimes after 30 min. It makes no difference if I watch a 720p tv show or a 4k movie.
The only way to continue is to go back to the menu and resume playback.

My Chromecast is connected to my 5ghz wifi network. Speedtests show me around 300mbit. When watching with VLC, Emby or Kodi the playback doesn’t stop.

I’m running the Linuxserver plex docker. I tried a fresh install and also tried with the official plex docker. The result is the same.

I’ve attached the logs.

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3842
Player Version#: 8.11.0.22186

Similar issue here.
Using the same server, same file, same TV, same WiFi, same Plex settings with a FireTV 4K works flawlessly.

Looked at the network usage and noticed that while the FireTV keeps buffering at a fairly constant speed, the Chromecast with GoogleTV buffers slowly at first, then buffers at high speed a big chunk, then only sporadically buffers at low speed.

Sounds like an issue with the Chromecast with Google TV or the Plex app on the device.

I do not have this issue, but, both of my Chromecasts with Google TV are hardwired, that is, not using WiFi. The PMS is also hardwired.

Somehow changing my ip to DHCP instead of static and using my ISP their DNS servers fixed the problem for me.

This worked for me also, but I feel uneasy using my ISP’S DNS Opposed to using CloudFlare (1.1.1.1) Have your tested this with Google’s DNS?

Yes, I’ve only tried this with Google’s DNS servers. Might try Opendns later.

Well spotted if the DNS is the issue. I did not consider this and I have been using 1.1.1.1 as main and 8.8.8.8 as secondary in my router.
I would really be annoyed if I was forced to revert to ISP DNS just because of this

EDIT:
Tried to switch to ISP DNS and same issue.

I’m using a Smart DNS so don’t really fancy changing it to DHCP…

Anyone tried anything else to solve the issue?

I use Quad9 and have not had any issues with my Chromecasts with Google TV.
