Chromecast issues in the Plexamp (v4.12.3)

When I try to cast from the Plexamp Android app to a Chromecast device, I experience a wide range of issues.

  • The ‘Players’ dialogue does not display the list of available devices.
  • When the list of devices if finally displayed, any attempts to connect to an available device result in a ‘Could not connect to player’ error.

I’m quite sure that the issue is related to the Plexamp app itself because:

  • I can still cast from the Plex web app without any issues
  • I can still cast from other music streaming apps from the same mobile phone

The Chromecast experience is known to be unreliable in Plexamp but was still toleravle. I used to ‘fix’ issues by restarting the app, but this solution no longer works since the latest version of Plexamp (v4.12.3).

Attached are the debug logs I retrieved from Plexamp, along with a screenshot of the Cast dialog.

As a long-time paying user of Plex and Plexamp, I would be grateful if the current issue could be fixed promptly, and if Chromecast integration could be thoroughly tested in future. This kind of quality degradation is not good for users or for Plex as a company.

I’m sharing another set of logs that I downloaded from the Plexamp app right after I finally managed to cast to my amplifier/receiver. However, it took me at least 30 minutes of random clicking, reloading the app, and trying every possible way to trigger the cast.
