Reposting a issue that occurred this time last year and seems to be happening again with the latest version of Plexamp.
Updated Plexamp to version 4.11.4 on Dec 20 2024 Chromecast players are no longer shown for casting.
I have 6 Chromecast devices that will intermittently show in Plexamp for playback and then all randomly disappear. When available, casting works fine but 90% of the time no players are shown.
This happens on my Samsung A15 and Fire Tablet with the same Plexamp version.
The Plex app works fine as well as the Symfonium app
Any input would be appreciated
Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: 4.11.4
i’m sure it’s a frustrating issue, but i can assure you that nothing has changed in this area recently. there’s something weird in the underlying chromecast libraries which sometimes fail to discover players. it’s frustrating…
I’ve also come home from holidays to find all home Chromecast devices now undiscoverable to plexamp (but still useable from everything else - including the base plex app)
I’ve been using Plexamp on Android 15 Pixel 6a (Dec 21 2024, how can I tell the version?), and Chromecasting with no problem.
I’m new to the Mac version, just downloaded 4.11.5 onto my M3 Air (macOS 15.1.1) and it plays fine on the Mac but cannot see any of my Chromecasts.
Anything I should try to diagnose?
Thanks!
Update: Working!
I had downlnoaded Plexamp from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/?cat=computer&plat=macos#plex-plexamp. I just downloaded via the App Store and it DOES see my Chromecasts. Happy happy, joy joy!
It’s possible I didn’t allow the first version to find devices on my network, as the App Store version requested, I don’t recall. I don’t believe the Plex.tv-download version asking if it could use BlueTooth, but the App Store version did.
