Roku has it, web has it, why not Chromecast? I know nothing about this type of development, but logically it doesn’t seem that difficult. Transcode to compatible h.264 like when recording to DVR, but stream that to the Chromecast instead. Even if it was buffered a bit, no problem. Lots of Chromecasts out there…
I’m hoping this is on the roadmap, as I’m trying to move to only using chromecast for media consumption in my home. When I found out that live TV doesn’t work on chromecast, I had to cancel my plans to move forward with plex 100%. There are a few other issues that have me hesitating, but this issue is a deal breaker, since I don’t have any other streaming devices in my house.
Can someone at least tell us if Live TV on Chromecast is even on the roadmap? I’m trying to understand why this isn’t a thing yet. Cord cutters use Chromecast en masse and this feature would be the final feather in the cap for Plex. I’ve got 6 TV all on Chromecast and an HDHomerun waiting to be used by them.
We know Plex can already transcode OTA MPEG2 into a Chromecast compatible format, so what’s the big hold up?
At least some feedback from Plex would be appreciated. If its not on being worked on then we can move on to another solution for casting Live TV.

Accoring to ManuelPG, “it’s in the roadmap”.
It WAS working before and DISABLED in Android 6.3.0.1201-beta.
Maybe this is a political game? They want us to purchase Roku and Amazon FireTV devices?
So frustrating this is not available. Especially as you can work around it using a laptop - what’s the risk? Just let us do it and label it “beta” haha…
Another +1 here. I’ve got 5 TVs with a Chromecast on each. The only TV has a Live TV-compatible device on it already has a direct coaxial connection to the antenna, so it’s pointless. I bought an HDHomeRun Extend around Christmas, just assuming that live TV was supported on every device that Plex already supports (my mistake). I got super excited when I saw a list of newly supported devices dropped earlier this month, but super bummed when I found out the ever-popular Chromecast still wasn’t on the list.
Another one who would like to have this. I have a Chromecast on one TV as its only input method. Currently, I have to use the network streaming app to get any live TV on the set which is very flaky. Would be nice to just throw a live TV channel up there from Plex. As a side note, would be even better if I could do this via Google Home with, “Hey Google, play channel 504 from Plex on my Kitchen TV.”
Any update on this from the Plex bosses? I just upgraded to Plex Pass - lifetime and was hoping to get early access to this feature as all my connected TVs have a Chromecast.
Yet another bump on this…has been an awful long time with zero reponse from Plex since October of last year when the feature was removed. This is an absolutely must-have feature for true full “chromecast” usage - which is all myself and many others personally do. Any updates on this Plex team?
Bump here too… Need to have this - especially since Silicon Dust has added their premium channel offering. Must have Chromecast on LiveTV to have a full one stop solution…
+1 here too. I really need this to make the system “wife friendly.” I’m pitching the benefits of plex to my wife and showing her how to cast it to the chromecast device and it doesn’t work. This makes her think the product is not mature enough to be used in our house.
