Chromecast is intermittent here from the Android app, mostly doesn’t work from iPhone. Subtitles can’t be selected / don’t work from either platform.
Casting was working from a web browser (including subs) but the last week I’ve had random visual glitches/hangs, requiring forced chromecast disconnect (outside Plex) and re-connection. At first I thought my video files were corrupt, but it happens randomly and intermittently.
I know many of these issues (for example Chromecast + subtitles) have been discussed for months on this forum, with no resolution. There’s also no way, even as a paid subscriber, to contact support/development - so we have no idea what the future plans are regarding Chromecast, what priority these bugs are triaged as etc
In your case, I would at least try to cast from a laptop browser.
Posting a followup in the hope a Plex employee can maybe offer some idea regarding 1) if these bugs are officially logged and if so, 2) what priority they’re being given.

It seems that Plex will no longer cast to a first generation Chromecast (“H2G2-42”) but it will cast to a second generation model (“NC2-6A5”). Have not tested later models.
The first gen is over ten years old and support from Google ended a couple of years ago, so I guess I can’t complain.
Confirming it broke for me on my Gen 1 but Ultra is also broken on iOS as of today. Shame there’s no official announcement of dropping support for devices.
