New IOS App - Can't Cast To Chromecast

Server Version#: 4.145.1
Player Version#:18.3.2

Since updating to the new IOS Plex app I cannot cast to Chromecast Ultra.
First the cast button did nothing, but following a different post I added an exception to the Adblock, which worked (I have since disabled the adblocker entirely). Now it connects to the Chromecast (though, compared to the old App, it takes a lot longer), but if I select a show it plays on the phone rather than o the Chromecast. Additionally, the cast button is now missing on the video player interface and you need to stop playback to connect to a chromecast (though, as above, this does not work).

Apparently, the ad-block software that several people run is incompatible with the casting feature and the new iOS/iPadOS Plex client. Reddit - The heart of the internet says to add https://config.claspws.tv/ to your allow list and then restart the Plex app - I would fully kill and restart the app. I have the same issue, but plan on waiting for Plex to fix the app instead of adjusting the ad block software.

Appreciate the reply, but this is not the issue in my case. I already tried adding the exception. Prior to adding it I couldn’t even press the cast button. After adding the exception, I can now see the Chromecasts and connect, but after connecting and trying to play content, does not play the the Chromecast, but still plays on the device. I have since disabled my adblocker altogether, but that didn’t help at all.

I have a similar issue with the new Android App.

Old app works fine. New app I cant see any chromecast devices until I added *.claspws.tv to my pihole allow list… now I can see the chromecasts but when I try to play something nothing happens.

Thankfully I have a phone that doesnt have the updated app.

same here. added config.claspws.tv to the whitelist allows my phone to see shieldTV as a casting device. However, when casting to it, the video doesn’t play. sigh~~~~~~

So is this just going to remain forever broken?

Doesnt seem to be any support on this issue.

I added that URL to my iPhone but that didn’t fix it. The old app and other apps cast just fine.

Still an issue on android and you can’t revert to the old app that worked fine. Seems plex is more interested in breaking the app than maintaining something that works. Or maybe more interested in selling our activities. Bring back the old app. Make plex great again

Same issue with new android app can’t cast to Google home.

It will load the show for a second then fail and just show the plex logo

iOS 18.4.1
Plex app v2015.15.00
Chromecast 1st gen (Cast firmware version: 1.36.159268)

When clicking cast from iOS app, it says Loading the app and it keeps trying to load then nothing happens.

Before the new Plex app redesign all was working well.

Same here, I just got the PLEX iOS app update and it stopped working with Chromecast Gen 1.

Very frustrating as it was working just fine …

just rollback Downgrade to old iOS Version and turn off updates only for Plex - Howto! - no jailbreak required

Have the same problem, using Plex App version: 2025.15.0 (1053) on iOS.
The chromecast icon appears just fine, and i can connect to it, but it keeps says “Buffering” forever.

I also noticed that no playing settings are available for chromecast (like video transcoding, audio etc).

It seems to be a problem several people experience, so how can Plex be notified about this, and hopefully solve it?

I believe they are aware of various casting / airplay issues but I don’t have any kind of ETA or anything.

Okay thanks for answer, do they have made an announcement or anything?

I mean, did the Plex management team not see how the Sonos debacle played out? I was using the preview version and was shocked it went live so soon

Same issue on Android. Multiple devices similar behavior. Older phone never sees any of my chromecasts and my Pixel 7 Pro can see the chromecasts but it never connects fully. Plex logo gets displayed and will sit there indefinitely.
