So over Christmas I used my tablet to chromecast from my plex media server quite a bit. It met an unfortunate demise so I switched to my phone, still no problem, but not as nice. So I setup an old laptop and installed the Plex Media Player for Windows and when I click the cast button it just shows my other devices. Today I checked out the computer with the server itself and same thing. Is there a new setting or something? The chrome browser is detecting the chromecast so I know it’s working.
Chromecast only works from Android (with Google services not Amazon) iOS and Chrome web broswer. The Googlecast API only works with those.
Why was this changed? I’ve been casting from my media server using the chromecast icon for at least two years. You want people to pay for the app I’m guessing?
Nothing was changed regarding that. The Google API that allows app to send things to a chromecast only works from Google Chrome Web Browser, iTunes and Android with Google Play services. We don’t control what Google allows.

If you previously accessed your server via web app in the Chrome that is why it worked. If you are now using some other web browser or the Web app in Plex Media Player it will not work.
I’ve always used chrome, and magically the option to cast is back today.
