Downloaded the new Windows Plex app today, somehow the chromecast does not get recognized by the windows app. If I try to cast any webpage/tab to the chromecast it works fine. The new plex app (and the old one “Plex Media Player”) both won’t show the Chromecast.
I’ve tried to disable the firewall/virusscanner, this gives no solution. Restarting the router and the Chromecast won’t solve anything either.
I have this same error. The network is properly set up, I can cast from plex on any other device (phone, tablet, etc) and can cast just fine from the plex.tv browser app if using Chrome. The new desktop app, however, just says “No Players Found”. The app is allowed through all firewalls and not blocked by virus or malware scanners.
Per their support article, casting to Chromecast only works from the Chrome browser. IIRC, the “cast” icons in PMP and the new Plex app refer to other Windows apps / clients on other computers within the same local network that have “Advertise as player” enabled in General settings.
So that means that when the web app will not be supported anymore, there will be no means to cast from a computer to the chromecast ? that would be a bit lame…
