Chromium Browsers and Audio AAC 5.1 casting

Server Version#: 1.23.6.4881
Player Version#: ?

Have never got an answer to this, I still love to know - I do see other posts, although, AFAICS, there’s no definitive answer. If it is answered, I apologise.

Why does AAC 5.1 audio only work when casting via the mobile app and not via Chromium browsers? AAC Stereo is fine.

Someone must know?!

That should be possible. There is a setting in Plex Web to force sending 5.1. Have you tried enabling that?

Can only see Force multi-channel audio support under Settings>Plex Web>Player, and that’s checked.

Enable logging for Plex Web. Try casting again, then grab the logs. Plex Web App Logs | Plex Support

Not sure if you want the raw or json version… I grabbed the raw log

PlexLog.zip (24.8 KB)

What type of Chromecast device are you sending to?

2nd-Gen hockey-puck

And what is that connected to? If that doesn’t support 5.1, it won’t work.

But 5.1 works when casting via mobile app… Unless the app casts in AAC Stereo

Just to be clear, when casting from Web, are you not getting any sound or you don’t get 5.1 sound?

When using Android, how are you checking what is being used?

I am also looking to get a 5.1 AAC transcode in the web player, have tried the “force multi-channel” option but that seems to only apply to Chromecast. I am looking to play 5.1 audio from my PC’s web browser to my 5.1 Windows audio device, specifically from Microsoft Edge. Supposedly this used to work, according to the googling I’ve done. Edge is capable of playing 5.1 audio, I actually do 5.1 broadcasts to Twitch quite often that I can play back in 5.1 from Edge. Can we get this working in Plex too?
