Clarification on optimizing files

Server Version#:1.25.2.5319-7000
Player Version#: -All

As I add 4k content to my library I’ve noticed a lot of buffering and erroring when trying to watch things remotely. I’ve read the Media Optimizer Overview and Creating Optimized Versions support articles but am looking for some clarification.

  1. I can create a folder (/volume 1/Optimized/OPTIMIZED FILE) and give PLEX that path as the location to store the optimized files, correct? I’d prefer to do /volume 1/Movies/Optimized/OPTIMIZED FILE but I found a forum thread where someone was having issues with that on a Synology NAS which is what I host my server on.
  2. Do I then need to create an optimized library?
  3. Is there any sort of rough estimate I can use to determine how much storage the optimized versions take up? (so 500MB for every gig of original file size)

Found a partial answer information I was looking for in a YouTube video. Updating the post so that anyone who might have similar questions can take a look.
