Manually defined optimized versions folder?

So I have all my Nvidia ShadowPlay game captures on my plex server (a Synology NAS with HW encoding) the theory being that I can show people things that have happened in may games, but there has been a problem that the files (probably the bit rate) are to hard for the transcoding to be done real time (takes 2 minutes to transcode a 1 minute video from 1440p 144hz to 1080p 60hz) so I would like to make optimized versions of them all, but do to the fact that I don’t trust programs to directly effect my media storage (and for good reason as a while back plex apparently had a bug where it would just delete media files) I refuse to allow Plex to modify the said media storage.

Is there a way to manually define a storage location like in the plex folder for Plex to store all the optimized versions?

The only “options” I have is to store them in the same location or in a folder in the same location…

Unless something is different on the Synology …

On other platforms, you can choose to store Optimized Versions in folders that are in the Library.

Add an additional folder to the Library, where you want the optimized versions to be stored.

You should then be able to choose that folder when you start an Optimize job.

Edit: And Plex will need write access to just this one folder. :slight_smile:

where exactly?
the library folder?
the application support folder?
or the plex media server folder? (the one with the logs and the like)

or do you mean library as in where the media is?

Settings -> Manage -> Libraries

Edit the Library that contains your game captures.

Add an additional folder, where you want Optimized Versions to be stored.

Once added, you can choose that folder when creating Optimized Versions.

To supplement, optimized versions are always created additionally to the original file.
The original file is never replaced when an optimized version is created.

Hehe. Understood. I do the same except for the DVR folders.
