"Classic Mode" or "Use Old UI" Option

Can you PLEASE simply make this new UI optional? SO many people hate this! Upgrades should be CELEBRATED, and if you have this many people complaining you need to do some damage control FAST.

They don’t care about you. By they, I mean PLEX organization. They have a vision and they will ram down your throat whether you like it or not

Plex is one of the worst companies ever. They see all of this negative feedback and that 99.99% of all users hate the new app and they still won’t budge. I haven’t seen a single comment that was happy about any of the changes.

If Plex were smart they would either revert to the old app, which was absolutely fine and needed no changes, or give us back the old app in an alternative way like Plex Classic.

But I don’t think they will do that because the people making the decisions have huge egos and love imposing their will on others. They absolutely hate that we hate the new app and that makes them not want to give in to us.

It would be interesting to see the results though if the old app was brought back as Plex Classic and the new app remained and how many people immediately switch back.

I predict nearly everyone would install the Plex Classic version and delete the new app from their Rokus.

And that’s another reason why Plex won’t give it to us. Nobody likes being told their work is garbage, even when it’s true and everyone knows it.

Must I put this on yet another thread that I like the new app. It’s called a small learning curving. Happens with any app redesign ever.

You realize arguing “likes” and “dislikes” is pointless, right? However, as a Plex customer who paid for lifetime PASS, I hope that the Plex organization would listen a little to the voice of customer. It has nothing to do with the learning curve of the new UI. Making changes for the sake of changes is the worst possible scenario. You like this app, great for you. The Plex organization found one happy user. However, majority of the users do not like it. Do you see it the point here? I’ve been using it since the beginning as I use “Plex Preview” to see early changes. I could never warm up to it. Also, with every change, something get broken, regressive bugs are introduced, etc. It does not bode well for the PLEX organization as a whole as they seem to be bent on pushing ads based services and their own streaming. They want to become next Disney+ or Netflix or any other streaming service that is already out there. PLEX was for personal media. That’s why I purchased the PLEX lifetime. It’s no longer that. It’s littered with crap majority of Plex users do not want.

“The majority” you call it is based on the customers that decide to post negative comments or every Plex user?

The ones who bother to post. You cannot prove negative, can you?

So we have one vote for liking the new app up against hundreds of others who don’t, possibly thousands since not everyone comes to message boards to complain. Your vote is counted. Plex management can now throw a party since ONE person likes their new UI mess.

I would say it’s the opposite. All complaints come here. Most people aren’t bitching to themselves.

It’s not the opposite. If you think most people that don’t come here to complain is because they like the new app that’s not true. Most people either don’t know about this place or don’t feel like putting in the effort to complain.

Ok, so the new UI is ugly and poorly designed, and takes a learning curve. I could get over that. But the fact that it just doesn’t work and is unusable made me leave PLEX. I switched out for Jellyfin two weeks ago, and while it’s not quite as good as the previous plex app, at least it works.

The new interface basically makes the Roku Plex app unusable. HEY PLEX CHANGE IT BACK YOU MORONS!

You need to realize that not everyone who uses Plex is a server admin and are technically savvy. A HUGE number of PMS admins host family owned content and share it with said families, most of which include elderly and some disabled people. Those people are complaining, believe me. MANY of us have been fielding complaints from relatives who don’t even know these forums exist and will NEVER even begin to understand how to come here and voice their concerns.

The silent voices are the ones we’re trying to be most vocal for. That is the problem. There are a handful of users on here, like yourself, who don’t seem to understand the gravity of the situation and just how far it goes. Maybe you and possibly your users like the change but that is not a universal truth and the fact remains there are many, many more people out there upset than just the ones that have posted here.

Every single person that uses my server and a Roku has complained to me about the new UI. Out of those seven, none of them have posted here. Just like most circumstances sweeping generalizations don’t work.

You’re absolutely correct that most people that aren’t upset by the change in UI aren’t going to come here to post about it. The majority of people who absolutely hate it aren’t going to come here to post about it.

Considering most people aren’t going to take the effort to post regardless, that’s why you have to pay extra attention to those users that DO provide feedback. They’re the most passionate of your user base. If even 75% of those users are disappointed that’s a pretty significant indication that you’ve done something wrong. In this case it’s more like 95-98% that have expressed resounding negative feedback.

As for the claim that it is just a learning curve, I’ll give you that. The problem there is that people don’t want to spend time learning how to do something worse. For example let’s say you’re used to using a calculator to multiply two numbers. Then someone comes along and says you need to write out the first number as many times as the second number tells you to and then add them all together. You’re going to get the same answer but it’s a lot less efficient even after you’ve been doing it a long time. That’s what Plex is forcing on us.

The whole point everyone is making is that they shouldn’t have to “get used to" a worse method of doing things. Last time I checked, companies don’t succeed and grow by satisfying a small minority of their customers and enraging the rest. We get it, you don’t mind the new update. By agreeing with the overlord that doesn’t make you right.
