I have been having an issue for the last 4-6 weeks where local and remote clients will buffer at various times. I thought this was isolated to direct play but it is now happening with transcoded streams as well. I was able to capture this today when both a remote stream and local stream buffered at the exact same time.

This is happening on various clients such as: Roku stick, roku ultra & xbox. The devices are at different physical locations (remote/local). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m having the same exact issue on my roku ultra. I thought it was due to transcoding h265 media however it occurs with h264 as well. From the client it appears to be buffering for 15 seconds, then play for 3 seconds, and then buffer again for another 15 seconds. When I check the logs it reports the same issue. I easily see about 100 logs reporting the same issue.
Overzealous client asked for end range of 1376255, content size is 1199064; we’ll clip.
It started about the same time period as well, about a month ago. I monitored the server and network resources. There looks to be little demand on the server when this happens and all clients are connected via ethernet.
Unfortunately it looks like this issue has reached me recently as well, and it makes Plex completely unusable. Using a wired Roku Preview with Windows PMS, same as above. It eventually just exits the file. So far, I can’t see signs of this being a hardware issue. I can provide logs to a dev if needed.
As an update, I’ve moved all my “arr “ services to another PC and disabled all hardware transcoding. I even eliminated my file storage by moving a few movies/shows directly to my Plex server so the NAS is out of the equation.
I tried a few different Roku’s around the house, and I’m only having this problem on one. For the models that work, they’re all transcoding the DTS audio (one transcoded to AC3 5.1, the other to AAC Stereo). The one that is failing direct-streams the DTS track. Just a random thing you can possibly test.
Direct stream is required here because I have direct-play disabled due to a different Roku bug.
I have the issue on roku, roku tv & Xbox’s so I don’t think it’s a roku issue. If I choose one quality lower it works great, so transcoding shows no problems. Try forcing trandcode and see if yours is resolved.
Just been starting to get this same problem, unable to play some titles from Roku and this message turns up in the log. im running the server on windows 10
