By now, i’m sure most have seen some of the videos posted from Plex’s booth at CES.
One thing that stuck out to me was the xBox 360 sitting in the stack of STBs and the controller in the hands of some of the bloggers videos.
Does anyone have any additional information on this? The only thing they really showed was the eventual WP client that’s coming, which looks pretty slick.
Just wondering.
thanks!!
As far as I could see it was just a client for the Plex UPnP/DLNA server functionality
More information about this functionality?
More info on that will follow in the future.
But what can be said is that there will be a version coming out in the future with DLNA support, enabling DLNA devices to fetch videos from PMS.
Do we know the date that the new version with dlna support will be released?
We haven’t announced an exact date yet. It’ll be some time in Q1 2012
Still don’t know why I would use DLNA because that UI is mostly so horrible… It would be cool to have plex at every DLNA device but that’s just a utopia
It’s for platforms that don’t support third-party apps, but do have DLNA clients (notably the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3). Your Plex experience will always be better with a client written specifically for our server software
for example, i would be able to use my popcornhour c-200 or samsung tv that have dlna support with plex?
If we will have the same interface on pure DLNA Library menu as we got on the clients just with the PMS...
I will just mary you! :P (Seems another big step and a great idea!)
I’m afraid not
DLNA is limited to providing a content tree - it’s not possible to change the UI, you’re stuck with what the client already provides.
Nevertheless, this will save people to have a PMS server and a DLNA server in the same box.
Stills a great idea to include the dlna on Plex!
Well done! Look forward to test it.
Yeah…That’s true. IT will help the user for sure…
How nice to be seeing DLNA in Plex,
The advantages of having just one media library, scraper and server for all your devices is perfect!
Looking forward to testing this out on my PS3
