Clients work without internet but Server cannot be accessed

I have two servers one on my Shield TV and the other on a PC. So I really did not know which folder to place this in as it pertains to both so here seemed a good compromise.

Last night I lost internet for several hours and during that time I was able to stream fine to at least two of my clients from either server but I could not access my servers at all from a computer. Even actually on the PC with the server using “localhost:32400” or on my regular computer using “AddressOfShield:32400” I received an error that Plex is unreachable.

I do not much need access when my internet is down but it seems strange that streaming was no problem but direct access did not work.

I have secure connections disabled on my servers.

I am just wondering why and if anyone has an explanation.

BTW: I could not capture any logs because all I got was a nearly blank screen with words in large letters something like “Plex is not accessible” there was nothing else on the screen.

I think unless there is a valid authentication token on the browser you are hitting PMS from, it will require you to authenticate against plex.tv to allow you access to your server, if you are signed in on the server. I could be remembering that wrong, though.

Maybe, but I had accessed both servers from my main computer earlier in the evening and, after the internet went down, I was unable to access either server from the same computer. With the earlier access it “should” still have the “token” from that earlier access.

Also since I have secure connections turned off I would think that the need for a token would be negated. But I could be wrong as well.

The token is not tied to encryption. As long as your browser did not clear your history you should have had a valid token I would think. Do you have your local net set as no auth required? Is your server signed in to plex.tv?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by “Do you have your local net set as no auth required?”

As I said in my first post I have secure connections disabled on my servers and yes my servers are signed in to Plex.TV.

Server settings, network.

List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth
Comma separated list of IP addresses or IP/netmask entries for networks that are allowed to access Plex Media Server without logging in. When the server is signed out and this value is set, only localhost and addresses on this list will be allowed.

This needs to be set and the server cannot be logged in when connectivity is lost. I could be wrong, but that is what I remember.
