Closing, Exiting, Sleep or Shutdown from OpenPHT will hang Windows 10 OS.

Hi all,

Whenever I Close, Exit, Sleep or Shutdown OpenPHT 1.6.X from the menu, my entire Windows 10 system will hang. Sometimes I can Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the taskmanager to open and close OpenPHT but most of the time it’s a hard shutdown/startup from the power sw. that is required to get it back. Happens EVERY time but did not when running straight Plex (Not Open PHT) Home Theater.

Anyone else with same issue or fix?

No issue for me. I’m running 64 bit Windows 10

Please post your openpht logfile after it hangs/crashes …

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\OpenPHT\OpenPHT.log

That’s what I’m running too except I may be a little shy on memory. --4GB. (It’s all this Dell Vostro sys. bd. will handle)

I will post Logs soon.

I had the same issue.
Changing from the Black Skin back to OpenPHT Skin fixed it for me. Updating the Black Skin fixed it better.

Thanks Don I’ll try that. I take it that it’s in Pref’s? It’s currently using the default but I’ll change it, then change it back.

Well, the only “Skin” I have in my OpenPHT IS the default OpenPHT skin.

I was wrong about the Skins.
OpenPHT behaved fine from a remote session (teamviewer) when I changed Skins. Skins had nothing to do with it. It is the remote session that keeps things working.
When I got home and had a console session OpenPHT would lockup regardless of Skin. Back at work now I can remote session and OpenPHT behaves fine again.
At home I did notice not actually playing anything before exiting kept OpenPHT from freezing.

Exact same results here. If I don’t watch anything, it will close fine but after watching an ep. it will hang on the Close screen. Also will not hang if running an open remote session of VNC (although VNC mucks up the video somewhat).

I have found that to “free” up the OS I can Ctrl+Alt+Del and do a “Switch User”. Go back in with my same sign-in and it will be freed up again. Wondering if it’s some kind of video or memory hardware issue. I running a Dell Vostro with 4GB of RAM and an on-board HD3400 (I think) video card with HDMI output. How about you?

Well misery loves company.
I have an HP Pavilion with 6gigs and an ATI Radeon video card with HDMI.
Did an OpenPHT uninstall, reboot and install just now. We’ll see when I get home.
All this started after my latest Windows 10 updates. Maybe coincidence.

I’ll bet that’s it more than anything (Windows 10). I tried uninstalling both PlexHT & OpenPHT first too but it didn’t make any difference whatsoever.

I also uninstalled both VNC and Remote mouse. And… Tried running OpenPHT in Compatibility mode as Windows 7 & 8. No help either.

what does the windows event viewer show when it crashes?
have you checked all your drivers on he machine are up to date, including video and audio?

i have openpht on 3 desktops and 1 surface running windows 10, no issues at all

if you are at the end of your wits i could have a look at your system remotely via temporary teamviewer session if you like see i can see something wrong

The drivers are what Windows 10 applied to them. There are no updated ones for this pc from Dell or the chipset mfg. I will check the event logs tonight.

check for a updated video driver from intel/amd/nvidia to start with

The only available video driver is for Windows 7/8 and IT would not load on this machine.

Found the cause of my issue thanks to Daniel’s video hunches.
I have a DisplayLink USB Adapter for an extra third monitor. I rarely have that third monitor on. Windows 10 Update had recently uninstalled the DisplayLink software. The DisplayLink USB Adapter was still connected. When I disconnected the DisplayLink adapter OpnePHT closed quickly and gracefully.
Hope drrohle finds something as simple.
Thanks to all.

Checked ALL the Event logs and nothing really stands out as a problem. I also posted the Plex log above to see if anyone can find a reason for the hang. Seems like it’s the video chipset hanging since I can Alt+Ctrl+Del to switch user and log back in with my credentials and everything is fine until the next Close operation (After) viewing a show.

the log doesnt show anything, the problem is likely your display drivers, i would look at adding/updating whatever graphics you have in that PC to something basic, but more current

Agreed, but with Windows 10 Pro you cannot load any drivers unless they are certified by M$oft.
