Cloud Sync not working properly - Sporadic, Glitchy

I just got the PlexPass a few days ago and have been trying out the Cloud Sync service, which doesn't seem to work very well for me.

When I start Syncing something, it'll do the transcode just fine and then sits there at "Waiting to Upload". After about 5-10 minutes, it'll start. Which would normally be fine, I don't mind a small wait before it starts. The problem is, it'll only upload a small amount at a time (10-20% for >200MB files at Medium quality), then switches to an ellipses icon (...) and sit for another 5-10 mins, doing nothing (presumably). This continues until the file uploads.

This works fine (if slowly) for smaller videos, like 20 minute TV episodes, but a movie or longer episode won't upload at all and only gets ~1% before stopping and showing the ellipses symbol, then starting up again 10 mins later. I had a movie trying to upload for 24 hours straight, and it never got there. It shows the file in Google Drive, but the video never actually completes uploading. It's not my upload speed that is making it this slow, I uploaded the same movie file directly to the Drive in under an hour.

I've got port 32400 forwarded for Plex, and Google Drive for my Cloud Service (I've tried all the others as well to see if there's a difference, there isn't). I've manually updated the Plex server to the latest version, and restarting the server doesn't seem to help either. I'm kind of at a loss at the moment, I haven't really found any posts about a similar issue and if I can't figure it out I'm just going to cancel my PlexPass. I'd love to use it but not if the main reason I've got it isn't working properly.

Has anyone else had a similar issue, and know of a way to fix it?

I have the same issue, files convert fine but they never upload, the closest it got was having the "uploading" message up to 1% then back to "waiting to be uploaded", I have tried restarting server, unlink my Google Drive subscription and then link it again, change quality of of sync; all with no results.

Any other ideas? anyone? The Cloud Sync feature was the main reason I got PlexPass.

Hi guys,

I had the same problem on my server too. For me, I did a traceback using the debug option for PMS. I found that it was a transcoding error causing the problem. There were occasionally errors with Google Drive too (for example create 0-byte files which can't be overwritten later). It's very frustrating because the failed files ghost up your storage on Google Drive which requires manual deletion. Without knowing file names, you have to delete the whole lot unless your lucky enough to get a thumbnail of the failed file. Something that helped me was i) reauthorising Google Drive if there are persistent upload failures ii) installing a better codec pack and making sure plex is using them (e.g. k-lite mega). On linux, you shouldn't have transcoding errors at all, check to make sure ffmpeg is install or avconv. You will always find linux uses much more CPU for transcoding than Windows.

Hope that helps you guys, I've spent the last three days doing exactly what you're doing (and yes just as frustrated lol). I'd actually contribute some code, but they don't github or something similar so I can't even pick up on the dev side either. Nevermind.

I paid for a PlexPass to use Cloud Sync with Google dive.

Transcoding is fine but file always stays on 'Waiting to upload'

I can manual copy the transcoded file to my Google drive without issue.

Can Plex devs please acknowledge this issue with a time to fix.

bump .... any dev response please

If you peruse the forums, you'll see there are lingering issues with Google Drive. I haven't had any problems with Copy or Bitcasa. Dropbox was fine until an hour ago when all my media was "scrubbed" from their service. Grrrr...

Same Problem here..... uploading 2%.. stop.. uploading 2% again and again and again.... (with Google Drive)

EDIT: hmmmm I'll watch it once more. Now it worked at once.

Same for me as well, appears to be fine'ish with smaller media files, but as soon as you hit a file thats over a gig it appears to covert fine, then just sits there.

If I could upload those converted files manually myself I would at least have a work around, but everything thats already been suggested doesnt appear to work for me, it continues and fails to upload its own file and doesnt appear to recognise that there is a file already there with the same file name.

Also using Google Drive..

Same thing here on my end, Google drive and Plex sync work maybe 5% of the time , actually i only got one file to work at 1.7gb, when i download the movie and i place it in google drive everything is fine but Plex wont see it! Google can take up to a 10gb file fyi

it seems the sync feature hangs up with other cloud services as well , this has been ongoing for months but the issue continues, a shame as i paid for more storage on google drive and a plex pass! read first is the lesson , in theory this is a cool thing as google drive has much better thoughput than the plex server for remote viewing but 5% of the time it works all the time :-p

I am having the same issue...gets so far then no further. Some info from the log file

May 13, 2014 14:59:33 [0x10db93000] ERROR - MyPlex: Error 424 requesting XML from: https://plex.tv/sync/upload/google?p......Anyone have any ideas?

same issue here with Google Drive and Dropbox on Mac and PC . dropping the transcoded file manually is a option but it wont show in the Plex server just dropbox, anyone have a workaround?

I'm testing Cloud Sync for Google Drive using a 885kb file. The transcoding finished with low setting, but the file has been in "Waiting to Upload" status for about 20 minutes now.

Plex Team: For the 'cord cutting' media server solution that you seem to be positioning Cloud Sync as, this is unacceptable.  I've subscribed to your service, followed your cloud sync documentation, and haven't successfully synced a single file to Google Drive. If I can't sync a file less than a megabyte in size, why should I bother trying to upload a movie, or even an episode of television for that matter?

I will be canceling my myPlex subscription, but will happily return when your service does what it says it will.

Same problem of "waiting to be uploaded" for both Google Drive and Bitcasa.  Doesn't appear to even begin to upload.  It would be nice if developers would at least acknowledge this is a problem they are working on.....

Bonjour.

I’ve got the same issue happening with google drive. Files seem to transcode and then it just sits there for hours saying waiting to upload. I paid for plex pass just to use this feature… Seriously. I could have (and will) manually transcoded the file into google drive, uploaded and played them right off google drive app on the iPad. Thought this would be better because everything else about plex is great.

Another note. There are tons of forum posts about this linking all the way back to when cloud sync was released. Plex Devs… Please fix!

Would I be correct in thinking the Plex devs are simply ignoring this issue?

From all of the individual threads and hundreds of comments and replies, it would seem so. I'm not sure I've seen a single reply from Plex themselves yet.

I'm a Plex Pass subscriber, but only monthly for now. I'd be happy to sign up for a lifetime pass if this actually worked, but it doesn't. I assume the devs don't want to hold their hands up and admit it doesn't work, as this is the primary carrot for their business model?

For the record, I've tried this with all of the available cloud suppliers and it doesn't work with any of them. I've tried unlinking, re-linking (restarting PMS between each change), and just about everything else mentioned here.

Okay, $3.95 isn't a lot, but it's a lot just to pay for an icon with an arrow and a cloud on it.

I have subscribed to Plex Plass (for life, how optimistic was I) just few weeks ago to use Cloud Sync with Google Drive and... it's not working at all... It goes to 100% uploading and back to waiting for upload... I can't upload even a single video.

Can devs at least try to solve this issue ?

Dropbox is working fine, Bitcasa,Copy and Drive not working - endless upload but no content in cloud.

Same here, works fine with Copy and Dropbox but is in an endless loop for Google Drive.

Running Server Version 0.9.9.10.458-008ea34

Win 7 64bit

Same problem here. I sent an email to the Plex Pass support email address with a link to this thread. Who knows if it would help.
