I’ve started running into an issue where the collection tags on my media are being removed. Also, these items are re-appearing in “Recently Added”. I’ve run through the steps to detect corruption, and also the steps for database repair to no avail. Has anyone else seen this particular issue? Is it a known one?
You haven’t shared much on your actual setup.
From what you’ve written, this sounds like your Plex Media Server has temporarily lost the connection to the underlying storage/file system while it did a (automated/scheduled/manual) scan. If you have configured your library to automatically empty its trash after each scan, this will result in the media actually being dropped. When Plex finds the media again during a later scan, it’ll be recognized as new (hence available in Recently Added) and without any manually added collection tags.
Please verify that Settings > Server > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan is actually unchecked.
My configuration: I have a Plex Server (1.14.1.5488) running on Fedora 29 which draws from a NAS (Synology DS1517) for media. I have the NAS mounted as a CIFS share in fstab on the server from which my media libraries are created.
I’ve done what you’ve suggested; trash was, indeed, being emptied after every scan, and I’ve unchecked that option. Will see if that does the trick. I will report back if that solved it. Thanks!
Too bad that Plex defaults to “Empty Trash automatically” on new installations. It didn’t use to, you had to enable it. Now you have to disable it, or you end up with this problem. I never understood the reasoning behind that decision.
Personally, I would rather empty trash manually then have my media more or less deleted and rediscovered everytime a drive is temporarily disconnected. Empty trash was easy to find on the home page, disabling the automatic feature requires a bit more digging into the settings.
After 5 days, it looks like my issue is resolved. My library has remained stable, with no tags removed and no items being moved to the “Recent” lists. Thanks for the suggestion!
