Something weird happened with my Plex 3 days ago. It appears that about 3/4 of my movie library is now saying they were added to the library 3 days ago. All of the movies from that group no longer have the collection tags, sorting titles etc…anyone know what could have happened…all other libraries are fine. Is there a way to restore the old metadata?
Sounds like a case of a „bad automatic scan“ in combination with automatic emptying of the trash after a scan.
If a drive is offline while you scan a library, Plex will ignore that the files cannot be found — however if the drive starts being available at some point during the scan, Plex will consider the previously tested files as deleted an remove them from your library. During a later scan they’re probably re-added… however all your manual edits (e.g. playlist/collection assignments) will be gone.
If that can happen with your setup you should consider disable Settings > [Server Name] > Library> Empty Trash automatically after scan.
That way, Plex will keep the library item (incl. your edits) until you manually confirm their deletion by emptying the trash from the library context menu.
