I logged into my server today to make a few tweaks and noticed that all my collections were blank. Every tag from every file has disappeared.
The only scenario I’m aware of where this can happen is a bad combination of
- periodic / scheduled library scans
- server configured to allow
Empty trash automatically after every scan - connected storage that gets disconnected or takes fairly long to spin up
In that case, your media could get deleted during a scheduled scan and subsequently be re-added during a later scan – however once your system empties its trash, all the previous manual edits or tagging will be gone.
Therefore I strongly recommend to disable Empty trash automatically after every scan if you cannot rule out your disc might occasionally take a little too long or might get disconnected for whatever reason.

It was set to auto.
All the thumbnail images are still showing in collection but no files in any of them. Ive checked 20-30 files and tags are just gone. This will take days to re-do…
I’m confused… what do you mean by the thumbs are still in the collection but no files?
There was a bug that some of us ran into with recent beta releases that - depending on your library structure and timing - could have caused this to happen.
Combination metadata matching and library scanning bugs.
All my collections were emptied and the tags were removed but the collections stayed. If I used the exact same wording for the Tag as an existing collection then it re-populated. I was able to fix it though it was a headache.

This is exactly what happened to me.
Luckily I was finally able to find a backup that worked from a few days ago!
